Complete Eligibility Criteria and Important Guidelines for CSIR-UGC NET Aspirants
General, Unreserved and General-EWS candidates who have secured at least 55% marks in Master’s Degree or equivalent examination from recognized universities or institutions are eligible for this test.
OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PwD and Third Gender category candidates who have secured at least 50% marks in Master’s Degree or equivalent examination are eligible.
Candidates pursuing Master’s Degree or appearing in the final year examination can also apply for the test.
Such candidates will be considered eligible only after completing their Master’s Degree with required percentage within the specified time.
Candidates qualifying for Ph.D. admission only must complete their Master’s Degree within one year from the NET result date.
Third Gender candidates are eligible for the same relaxation in age, fee and eligibility criteria as available for SC/ST/PwD candidates.
Ph.D. degree holders whose Master’s examination was completed before 19 September 1991 are eligible for 5% relaxation in marks.
Candidates are not required to send documents or certificates during online registration, but they must ensure their eligibility.
If any ineligibility is found at any stage, the candidature may be cancelled.
Candidates with a four-year or eight-semester Bachelor’s Degree must secure at least 75% aggregate marks or equivalent grade.
A relaxation of 5% marks is available for SC, ST, OBC-NCL, PwD and EWS candidates.
Candidates qualifying NET based on a four-year Bachelor’s Degree will be eligible for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and admission to Ph.D.
Such candidates will not be eligible for Assistant Professor posts.
Final year students of four-year Bachelor’s Degree programmes can also apply provisionally.
Candidates may appear in any subject in which they wish to pursue Ph.D., irrespective of their graduation discipline.
The maximum age limit for JRF is 30 years as on the first day of the month in which the examination is concluded.
Relaxation up to 5 years is provided to OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PwD, Third Gender category candidates and women applicants.
Relaxation is also available for candidates with research experience and armed forces service, subject to prescribed conditions.
There is no upper age limit for applying for Assistant Professor through CSIR-UGC NET.
There is no upper age limit for admission to Ph.D. through CSIR-UGC NET.
If any candidate is found ineligible at any stage, the candidature will be cancelled and legal action may also be taken.
Registration and candidature remain provisional until verification of eligibility criteria.
